The Dakota’s Discoveries CD contains eighteen original books that chronicle the adventures and discoveries of a thirteen year old dog while she lives at a beach house on the Pacific Ocean for eight weeks before taking a road (car) trip across the United States from Seattle to Miami and then via air travel to the island of St. Kitts in the West Indies. In the first eight books of the collection Dakota encounters and learns about a wide variety of creatures that live along the beach. Each book is rich in high quality close up photography and video which helps document the various interactive encounters. Here are a few of the titles from this section of the collection: |

Please note that the last book referenced here not only takes you to the beautiful beaches of an island in the West Indies/Caribbean but it also documents the large problem with garbage that washes up onto or is left on the beach. The impact of this problem is documented in simple ecological terms for students. In total the eighteen books written at a second to third grade level provide a rich exposure to life on the ocean and on a third world island. AND at the same time it provides students with exposure to historical sites like the Little Big Horn, the Crazy Horse Memorial, Mount Rushmore, Stone Mountain and other sites via a cross country road trip. It was my pleasure as President of Learning Magic to take care of and travel with Dakota for these past ten weeks. Dakota a year ago barely survived pancreatic cancer and today requires medications and food on a regular basis to maintain her blood sugar level. Yet she is an outstanding travel and exploration partner. Her owner at the same time has entered veterinary school in the West Indies despite her own battles with dyslexia. As you might have guessed, the road trip was the culmination of delivering Dakota to her mother after she received all of her required vaccinations and approvals for travel by the USDA. As a result of the on-going financial needs of Dakota and her mother, all monies generated by the sale of this book collection will be donated in its entirety to Dakota and her “mom”. | |
